As a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, consumers in the United States have been hesitant to go to physical outlets, such as grocery stores and malls, for fear of getting infected by other shoppers. Over the many months, however, retail shopping had shown continued strength. In April 2021, future shopping intentions at retail stores in shopping malls had increase by over 30 percent among U.S. consumers.
