Perceptions of safety in different situations in Italy 2021, by gender
In a survey conducted in Italy in 2021, female respondents expressed to feel less often safe compared to their male counterparts. One of the scenarios perceived as unsafe mostly by female interviewees was going to someone's place they did not know for an errand, e.g. to pick up a parcel. Similarly, going on a first date was perceived as a safe situation only by 26 percent of female respondents, while 59 percent of males stated the same. Overall, the situations in which both male and female respondents felt less safe was walking the streets alone at night.
