
Mean age of women at birth of first child in the CEE region 1995-2022
Women in the European Union are having their first pregnancy at an increasingly later age. The average age at which a mother gives birth to her first child was 29.7 in the EU in 2022. In countries from Central and Eastern Europe, women decide to have their first pregnancy at an age below the EU average. The youngest mothers were women in Bulgaria — 26.6 years old. On the other hand, women in Slovenia and Croatia decided to become pregnant at 29 years of age.
