Impact of COVID-19 on Gini coefficient in Tunisia 2020
A study conducted in December 2020 considered that the Gini coefficient in Tunisia would increase due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The Gini index measures the levels of equality (0) or inequality (100) in the distribution of income among the population. Within a pessimistic scenario, where Tunisia's gross domestic product (GDP) contracted by 11.9 percent, the Gini coefficient would reach 41.4, compared to around 37 before the pandemic, which indicates a worsening in the income inequality.
