Impact of COVID-19 on poverty rate in Tunisia 2020
A study conducted in December 2020 considered that poverty in Tunisia would increase after the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Within a pessimistic scenario, where Tunisia's gross domestic product (GDP) contracted by 11.9 percent, the share of the population living below the national poverty line would reach 25.6 percent, compared to around 14 percent before the pandemic. Moreover, the extreme poverty rate would also increase significantly from some three percent to nearly 12 percent.
