The number of net gained memberships of credit unions in the United States grew steadily each year between 2010 and 2018, when the number reached 4.9 million in 2018 before dropping in the following years. Although the trend began to reverse in 2021 and 2022, the total membership growth of 4 million in 2023 was lower than in previous years, indicating a downward trend.
