During the second semester of 2023, defamation and fraud were the leading reasons for most content removal requests made by the Indian government to the search giant, Google. Each accounted for 24 percent of the requests. Cyber criminal activity appeared to have peaked in 2023, with cyber fraud being one of the leading crimes reported to the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre.
