The number of people living in poverty was reported at its highest in the last four years in Algeria at 1.9 million as of 2021. This meant that the number of poor people increased from 2020 by 200,000. In contrast, both 2019 and 2018 recorded 1.3 million cases of poverty. The fact that more people were living below the poverty line was probably due to the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
