An investigation into diversity in the UK publishing industry revealed that 11 percent of employees in the field identified as LGBT+ in 2020, up by just one percent from the previous year. The publishing workforce in the United Kingdom is predominantly white, heterosexual, and female, with most employees hailing from middle class (ABC1) backgrounds. The study also showed that between 2019 and 2020 there was a small decrease in the percentage of LGBT+ employees who were open about their sexual orientation with their colleagues, and that most workers identifying as LGBT+ lived in London.
