Online travel searches change by segment 2020| Statista

Due to the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on the travel industry, online travel-related searches worldwide decreased significantly in 2020 over the previous year. On March 15, 2020, online searches related to the segment of adventure travel dropped by 44 percent when compared to 2019. During the following months, this gradually improved. On of December 27, 2020, online adventure travel searches recorded a 14 percent drop over 2019.

Data source from Google trends have been categorized into segments further referenced as adventure, culture, urban, sun & beach, and travel services. Each of the segments had been constructed through putting together a set of 20 keywords, covering popular activities, sited, and destinations.

Language of origin has been accounted for via conducting data scraping not only in English, but also in Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish. Considered set of countries does not include China to Great Firewall.
