In the United States, in the first half of 2020, many retail companies had to close their stores due to financial dire straits. Of the announced store closures that were brought about by going into bankruptcy, 39 percent of them were apparel retailers. About one quarter of companies that filed bankruptcy and announced store closures was in home furnishing retail.
