Get in touch with us nowDespite not being the main economic activity in the country, agriculture continues to be a notable tradition in Spain, especially in rural society. Andalusia ranked as the region with the largest crop surface, with over 3.5 million hectares. Castile-La Mancha and Castile and Leon followed behind, both with over 3.4 million hectares.
Spain is the second largest EU country in terms of agricultural area, with nearly 17 million hectares of cultivation area. Cereal crops were the most imported agricultural products in the country, despite having one of the highest production volumes in 2021. Fruits, on the other hand, had the highest export volume in 2022, with citruses leading the charts.
As of 2022, Europe had 18.5 million hectares of organic agricultural land. The consumption of organic products has been steadily increasing worldwide, and Spain is no stranger to this; in 2022 they were one of Europe’s leading organic producers. Its production is mostly concentrated in Andalusia, which is home to more than one million hectares.
