Many retailers, especially those in the non-essential category, suffered financially as a result of the pandemic and most recently, the rising inflation worldwide. With visitor numbers to retail locations and sales dropping dramatically, leading companies in the industry had to close many of their physical stores.
As of the firs half of 2021, the drug store retailer CVS announced closures of their 900 stores. Another pharmacy and drug store company Rite Aid was closing 63 of its stores as of the first half of 2021.
