In 2023, Japan recorded approximately 37.1 casualties of elderly pedal cyclists per 100,000 persons, decreasing steadily from around 63.9 casualties per capita a decade earlier. Motor vehicle occupants had the highest casualty rate among road users aged 65 years or older.
