There is an employment gender gap among the countries of the European Union. Men are employed full-time to a higher degree than women, regardless of education level. In fact, 74 percent of males with a high education level were employed compared to 66 percent of females with the same educational achievements. The gender gap, however, was even higher for EU citizens with a low education level. A significant gender gap in employment is also found when checking for age.

The Gender Equality Index is a tool to measure the progress of gender equality in the EU, developed by EIGE. It gives more visibility to areas that need improvement and ultimately supports policy makers to design more effective gender equality measures.
