People convicted of trafficking in persons in Nigeria 2014-2019
In 2019, 25 people in Nigeria were convicted of human trafficking, while in the previous year the people condemned were 50. In 2019, 701 people were reported to the criminal justice in Nigeria because they were suspected of or arrested for human trafficking. Data on the gender of these people show that males were more frequently reported for trafficking in persons. Overall, this figure sightly decreased in 2019 compared to the previous year. Nevertheless, the number of victims of human trafficking increased over the year.
