In 2021, the median range of current electric vehicle models stood at almost 234 miles. Breakthroughs in battery technology and lightweight materials significantly improved the range of electric vehicles in the 2010s, with the biggest jump seen in 2016. Vehicle range had long been an obstacle preventing the replacement of gasoline powered vehicles with battery electric power. As of 2021, some electric vehicle models could drive over 300 miles.
