Total number of credit unions worldwide 2009-2022

Between 2009 and 2017, the total number of credit unions in the world grew significantly. The number then dropped slightly, and in 2021 there were 87,914 credit unions. In 2022, the number of credit unions dropped again, standing at 82,758. The highest number of credit unions were in Africa and Asia, accounting for around 90 percent of all credit unions.
