With approximately 46 percent, Skype was most often used to masquerade malware by cybercriminals to target remote workers who are using these applications to replace offline communications. In fact, Kaspersky reports having detected 1.66 million unique malicious files online that were spread under the guise of commonly used applications for remote work, such as Zoom, Telegram, or Webex. Once downloaded and installed, these files would load Adware to the victims' device to gather personal data for third-party use. As employees have increasingly adopted flexible work models in 2020 and work from different locations and a variety of devices, cybersecurity becomes increasingly important to protect information.
