In fiscal year 2020, around 317 thousand tons of meat were traded at wholesale markets in Japan. This represented a decrease from about 350 thousand tons in fiscal 2011. The share of meat passing through wholesale markets declined steadily in recent years, reaching a low in fiscal 2019.
