In fiscal year 2020, around 2.3 million tons of fish and seafood were traded at wholesale markets in Japan. This represented a decrease from about 3.6 million tons in fiscal 2011. The share of marine products distributed through wholesale markets declined steadily in recent years, reaching a low in fiscal 2019.
