In the UK, about four in ten professionals responsible for their company’s purchases considered the availability of customized products an essential factor in their online purchases. Even higher percentages of their colleagues in the Unied States and China states the same. Another 31 percent of the UK B2B buyers stated that easy checkout was an important factor. The platform of Amazon Business seemed to fulfill the mentioned requirements, as more than half of respondents of the same survey envisaged using the B2B marketplace in the future.
Use of marketplaces in companies
Enterprises are using e-commerce marketplaces for their purchases more than before, especially when it comes to orders outside the main procurement spending. A study conducted among German enterprises showed that the number of companies and organizations using e-commerce sites for tail spend increased significantly between 2018 and 2019.
Merchandise volume of marketplaces
The growth of B2B e-commerce on marketplaces resulted in an increase of gross merchandise volume (GMV) 1191795, the value that which indicates the total amount of sales. It has been estimated that GMV amounted to over 31 billion U.S. dollars as of 2020, up from the previous year, when it did not go over 23 billion U.S. dollars.
