The vacancy rate of shopping centers in the United States has declined since 2020, after rising slightly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the first quarter of 2023, approximately 5.4 percent of shopping center real estate was vacant. Certain regions, such as Texas/South Central, had higher vacancy rates, while in others, such as the Northeast, the share of vacant properties was lower.
