Solar photovoltaic and onshore wind energy are expected to be the largest source of energy in most of the world regions by 2050. This forecast goes hand in hand with climate change measures expected to enhance the use of renewables and decrease or phase out fossil fuel supply by 2050. Solar PV, hydropower and wind power combined will account for 81 percent of Europe's electricity mix. By comparison, the same energy sources combined are projected to account for 96 percent of Latin America's electricity mix and 61 percent of North East Eurasia's electricity mix. Today, coal is still the greatest source for electricity generation in the world.
