In the United Kingdom (UK), on December 22, 2019 the number of GP referrals to a consultant per a face-to-face appointment was 0.03 and those made via remote appointment was 0.02 per GP appointment. However, during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the rate of GP referrals to consultant-led outpatient care both via face-to-face appointment and remote appointment fell to 0.01. Although, by June 2020, the number of referrals per remote appointment had increased to 0.04.
