Regional road transportation carbon dioxide emissions in 2018 were highest in North America, at almost 1.8 billion metric tons. Much of these emissions were produced in the United States, which is the top emitter of road transportation CO2 emissions worldwide. The Asia-Pacific region emitted the second largest volume of road transportation CO2 emissions that year at 1.5 billion metric tons. Of this amount, roughly half was emitted in China.
