Thus far in 2023, of all Austrian federal states, Vienna had the highest number of people fully vaccinated against the coronavirus (COVID-19). After months of research and testing, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the European Commission approved the BioNTech-Pfizer vaccine on December 21, 2020.
