According to a survey conducted by Rakuten Insight on online travel agencies (OTA) usage in June 2023, 56 percent of Malaysians surveyed purchased flight, bus, train, or ship tickets or rented vehicles on online travel agencies several months before their trip. Compared to booking travel services, there were less responses regarding bookings on the day of their trip.

The survey question was: "If you had used an online travel agency to book or purchase your travel tickets (flights, bus, train, ship, or vehicle rental), when did you do so? (choose all answers that apply)"
