According to a survey on usage penetration of online travel agencies conducted by Rakuten Insight in June 2023 in Japan, 56 percent of respondents who booked travel accommodation via online travel agencies stated that they used the service several months before the trip. The survey found this to be the most common timing to book or pay for travel accommodation among users in Japan, together with the booking of accommodation several weeks before the trip.
