In 2022, the distribution of PDO cheese sales among the different types of retailers was rather unbalanced. Indeed, the main points of purchase were supermarkets and hypermarkets (59.5 percent), followed by specialty stores (14.3 percent), and discount stores (13.9 percent).
The Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) refers to products that have been produced, processed and elaborated in a determined geographical area, using the recognized know-how of local producers and ingredients from the region concerned.
