As of the third quarter of 2020, Ascena Retail, an American retailer of women's clothing, closed 1.6 thousand stores in the United States. Meanwhile in that same year, JC Penny, one of the leading department store companies worldwide, closed 242 stores.
JC Penney filed for bankruptcy in May 2020, and Ascena Retail followed two months after.
