In 2019, metro and MCD (a new surface metro that combines the format of commuter trains and the metropolitan metro) were railroad transportation modes that transported the largest volume of passengers in the Russian capital, thus accounting for most stations. Suburban railways network listed third, with 56 stations in that year.
