In 2023, Venezuela had the lowest coverage rate of the tuberculosis vaccine among 27 Latin American and Caribbean countries. As of that year, approximately 67 percent of the population in the country received the Bacillus Calmette–Guérin (BCG) vaccine against almost 99 percent in Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Guyana, among others. However, Guyana recorded the highest number of tuberculosis deaths per 100,000 people during that year, with around 17 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants due to this disease.
