According to a survey conducted in July 2024, around 68.4 percent of private car owners in Japan experienced fuel expenses as a burden. The burden of parking fees had the widest urban-rural gap. While 35.8 percent of car owners in the city perceived parking fees as a burden, just 16.6 percent in the countryside shared this impression.

*The survey participants were Net Asia Research Internet Monitoring members who owned a private passenger car and drove once a month or more. The survey arbitrarily picked valid responses for its sample, comprising equal parts of male and female participants in four same-sized age groups.
