Purposes of bribe payments in Nigeria 2019, by gender
According to a study conducted in Nigeria, the most common purpose of bribe payments in the country is to speed up procedures carried out by public officials. As of 2019, almost 40 percent of the male and female respondents, respectively, indicated this reason. Other common reasons why bribes were paid to Nigerian public officials include avoiding the payment of a fine, avoiding the cancelation of public utilities, or maintaining good relationship.
