In 2019, roughly 58 percent of the children aged 12-23 months in Algeria had received a vaccination against poliomyelitis. According to the residence, nearly 60 percent of the children living in rural areas were immunized against polio, while the vaccination rate was lower among the urban children's population.
In the last decades, the polio vaccination campaign in Africa has been effective and allowed the Africa Regional Certification Commission (ARCC) to declare the continent free of polio in August 2020.
