According to recent data, the American department store retailer JCPenney suffered about 90,000 job losses associated with store closures in 2020. Data from mid-May 2020 also suggested the total number of jobs impacted due to store closures amounted to 168,158 for leading retailer companies. Temporary closures due to COVID-19 were not taken into account in the figures.
