Between 2010 and 2021, the land area covered by naturally regenerating forests in South America decreased by nearly four percent, whereas the planted forest area increased by some 39 percent. In absolute figures, this means the area occupied by forests in South America decreased by over 28 million hectares throughout the period in consideration.
