The sales value of functional soft drinks and water certified as "foods for specified health uses" (FOSHU) in Japan amounted to around 177 billion Japanese yen in the fiscal year 2020.
The FOSHU label designates food products with scientifically recognized health-promoting effects. Products bearing the label received the government's approval to be promoted with such health claims.
