Intra-African imports as a share of total imports into Africa 2013-2019
In 2019, 12.6 percent of the total value of imports into Africa were coming from the intra-African trade. This corresponded to a value of approximately 70.4 billion U.S. dollars against a total of around 560 billion U.S. dollars. Within the period considered, the intra-African import share decreased. By comparison, imports with origin in Africa made up 15.7 percent of the total in 2013. Overall, the African trade was mainly relying on countries outside the continent.
