Share of biotechnology companies in Spain 2020, by sector
In 2020, approximately 51 percent of companies and organizations using biotechnologies in Spain applied them in the human health field, representing the highest share among other sectors. Food products and agricultural production followed, which were fields of application for about 33 percent and 27 percent of the surveyed Spanish biotech companies. As of that year, time and costs were regarded as the main challenges for biotechnology development in the European country.
