On January 6, 2021, protestors stormed the U.S. Capitol while Congress was in the process of certifying the Electoral College votes for the 2020 presidential election. Protestors in favor of President Donald Trump gained access to the Capitol, resulting in the vote certification being interrupted and the evacuation of the U.S. Congress. According to a survey conducted afterwards, 71 percent of U.S. adults were strongly opposed to these protests.
