The Vendée Globe is an around the world sailing race. Participants sail single-handed, non-stop and without assistance, on monohull yachts.
On this race leaving and arriving from Les Sables-d'Olonne, Armel le Cléac'h in 2016-2017 was the fastest participant across all editions. He completed the Circumnavigation in 74 days for the eighth edition. The route consists of going down the Atlantic before sailing around the Antarctic and going back up to France. The race typically starts in November to take advantage of more favorable sailing conditions in Antarctic waters.
