When comparing global leisure and business travel spending in 2023, leisure tourism generated the highest expenditure across the leading travel and tourism markets worldwide. In the United States, the country with the highest total contribution of travel and tourism to GDP, leisure travel accounted for nearly 70 percent of total tourism spending in 2023. In China, which ranked second on the list, leisure travel represented 81.5 percent of the total travel and tourism expenditure that year.
