In 2019, art dealers operating only in the contemporary art sector recorded the highest share of buyers aged under 40, these buyers made up 21 percent of all contemporary art buyers. Meanwhile, only seven percent of modern art buyers were 40 years or younger with 47 percent of those purchasing modern art being aged 65 and over.

*The source sent a survey to over 6,000 dealers from the United States, Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America. It distributed it to the members of main dealer associations worldwide, such as CINOA, SLAD, SNA, CPGA, ADAA, FEAGA, and other national associations. The survey was also directly given to 500 individual galleries who participated in shows at Basel, Miami Beach, and Hong Kong in 2019 and Online Viewing Rooms (OVRs) in 2020. This specific survey received 1,018 responses, with 98 removed due to lack of data, and 920 used in the analysis.
