Since 2010 equities have comprised the largest portion of the assets of mutual funds worldwide, with their share trending upwards over this period. Mutual funds worldwide owned around 12 trillion U.S. dollars of equities in 2010 - roughly 40 percent of the total assets under management. By 2023, this had risen to 31.8 trillion U.S. dollars - around 45 percent of total assets. Regulated open-end funds include mutual funds, ETFs, and institutional funds.
