Compared to 2019, the rate of change regarding international tourist arrivals in North Africa in 2022 dropped by 33 percent. This represented the adverse effect of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on the travel and tourism industry in the sub-region. Comparatively, in sub-Saharan Africa, the year-to-date change in international tourist arrivals dipped by 46 percent, signifying a negative effect of the pandemic. Overall, Africa's inbound tourist change rate during the studied period stood at minus 40 percent.
