Importance of environmental criteria when purchasing non-food products in France 2020

In 2019, ADEME (French Environment and Energy Management Agency), an agency affiliated with the French Ministry of Ecological and Solidarity Transition and in charge of environmental protection operations and energy management, defined responsible consumption as the act of going beyond the simple interest of a product's promises of use, by taking into consideration its genesis and its influence on the environment and society. While environmental criterion is not the only aspect of this consumption model, it was deemed important by a large majority of French consumers in 2019. Only 15 percent of them considered respect for the environment as a secondary consideration when purchasing non-food products.
