Number of active mobile wallets in France 2012-2018

An e-wallet or mobile wallet is defined as a mobile application which allows individuals to realize a payment towards another person, a merchant, locally or online. The mobile wallet contains all personal information and functionalities needed to carry out a secure payment, regardless of the underlying communication technology of the transaction to the merchant (mobile number, QR code, etc...)
Despite these advantages, the adoption rate since 2012 has been quite slow in France. In 2018, things seemed to take off, with more than 24 active e-wallet providers on the French market.
