During the analyzed period between 2005 and 2016, the ED visit rate in counties that were in the direct path of a hurricane increased by around 48 percentage among those aged 65 years and older in the week the hurricane happened, and around 17 percent in the first week following the hurricane. The numbers are compared to pre-hurricane injury-related ED visit rates.
